Cupertino, CA -- With endorsement from all five major record labels, Apple launched late last month its iTunes Music Store, where customers can search for, purchase and download music for 99 cents per song, without subscription fees.
The iTunes Music Store allows customers to burn songs onto an unlimited number of CDs, listen to songs on an unlimited number of iPods, play songs on three Macintosh computers simultaneously, and use songs in any Mac application, including iPhoto, iMovie and iDVD.
The store opened with over 200,000 songs from music companies including BMG, EMI, Sony Music Entertainment, Universal and Warner. It also features exclusive tracks from over 20 artists, including Bob Dylan, U2, Eminem, Sheryl Crow and Sting.
Customers can listen to a free 30-second high-quality preview of any song in the store, then purchase and download their favorite songs or complete albums in one click.
All music on the iTunes Music Store is encoded in the AAC audio format at 128 kilobits per second, enabling faster download times while surpassing the sound quality of MP3 files at the same size.
The iTunes Music Store is fully integrated into iTunes 4, the latest iteration of Apple's free digital music jukebox software, allowing users to purchase, download, organize and listen to their music using just one application.
Apple also released new 10GB, 15GB and 30GB models of its iPod portable music player, featuring redesigned controls and AAC audio support. The 15GB and 30GB units come with a docking station equipped with a battery charger and a line out jack for easy hookup to stereos or powered speakers. |
